Ashburn

A couple of average Joes with no prospects living in a middle-American industrial wasteland.

A good trip.

Diary Entry, June 17th

"It’s been a long time since high school.  A long time since the carefree days when we’d sit out back attaching firecrackers to…well, anything that they’d fit on.  Since the last time I wrote in this journal (it’s not a diary, I don’t want to be called a nancyboy, damn you…and if you call me that I will punch your lights out and show you who is the nancy boy, ya fruitcake!) I have dropped out of Ashburn Community College and the degree that I was pursuing in economics cos the economy is shit so what’s the point (right?) and I’ve moved back home to my parent’s basement.  My ma and pop tell me to get a job, well, screw them.  I’m my own man and I do what I want!  My girl left me for some A-hole from the city with a car, so I just hang out with my neighbor Dougie because he’s always down to sniff glue and has access to a lot of other good shit.  He’s something of a gun freak, obsessed with the Civil War and World War II (sometimes I wonder who’s side he would be on…I’m sure he doesn’t though…cos, well…) so I guess we’ve moved on from those firecrackers.  Most of the days we just watch T.V. There’s a lot of good stuff on T.V. during the day, you forget when you’re out and about.  You know, court shows are starting to make sense to me.  Anyhow, I hear “Wheel of Fortune” is starting (hopefully somebody will eff up and say a swear word on it, I’d love to see Pat’s face if that happened!) and Dougie said something about finding some lead-based paint chippings, so I’m going to head back to the basement before he comes back up here and asks me what I’m doing.”
